Digital media has gained a lot of popularity in the present times. More and more people are preferring digital media to read both for entertainment and information. In such a scenario it appears that print media is falling behind. there is already a visible trend. The popularity of print media is declining while that of digital media is gaining day by day. People say that there may come a time when print media may be a thing of the past but can this really happen? Can digital media totally replace print media from our life? Keep reading to find out.
The reason why digital media is gaining a lot of popularity is because it offers a lot of advantages and cool features. The foremost advantage is obviously convenience. With digital media you can read whatever you want wherever you want. Whether you are walking on the road or lying on your bed, whether you are in a meeting or travelling in a new town, if you have access to internet connection then you can read. While with print media you have to sit in a proper posture and the content you can read is also limited by the book or magazine that you have.
Another reason for the popularity of digital media is that it offers multimedia support. On digital media you can incorporate text and photos with animated images, videos, audios and offer many features as well. It is also very easy to share the content that you like with other people on digital media
None of this is possible with print media.
All this makes us believe that digital media can actually replace print media totally. However recent surveys conducted by several organisations point out that as much as 80% of people reading newspapers still prefer the hard copy. When they were asked about the reasons for their preference, they said that the hard copy has a feel factor attached to it, it is also free of distractions unlike their mobile phones. Also, a recent science based study reveals that physical presence of readable material in our hands allows our mind to focus better on it and retain more of what we are reading.
Based on all these findings it can be said that digital media and print media have their own sets of benefits. It seems like digital media and print media are not replaceable with each other. Instead they serve different needs of the readers. Therefore it is unlikely that a digital media will ever replace the print media, instead both will continue to to exist together.
